2003, SD video 5 min

A video in which the expression of the face was isolated from the environment. There was nothing else to help the communication except the facial expression. By editing out the actual words, leaving only the facial expressions and the accompanying utterance of sounds, a 45-minute monologue was converted into a 5-minute narrative. In the “performance”, it never really becomes clear what the person is actually talking about and yet there is a clear understanding of the emotion it is trying to convey. By leaving out the words, it is possible to look beyond them and the inner meaning of what is actually left out is being revealed.
